Triumph Herald 2000
Paul's Triumph Herald 2000 - KJJ 178D
For the sum of £200 I managed to buy my first car in 1979 - a blue Triumph Herald 1200.

I then proceeded to tidy her up using copious amounts of filler and a re-spray with a garden sprayer. A couple of years later it failed the MOT due to excessive chassis rust. So in June 1981 I started a major body-off restoration. The aim of the rebuild was to have a modified Triumph Herald using the 2 litre (2L, 6 cylinder) Vitesse engine and chassis while keeping the appearance of the 1200 Herald. Necessitating a fairly major but subtle re-working of the front end to fit the larger engine in. The rebuild took over seven years to complete (click here for photos).

Some 20 years after the first restoration, the Herald was starting to get a bit "untidy". No major rust other than the doors. The rest of the body was just suffering from surface rust.

In August 2007 I finally took the plunge and decided to strip her down again, this time taking 14 months to get her back on the road. She still needs a bit of work to finish her off, but I plan to do this as and when over the next couple of years (click here for photos).

I've also put some photos from the various car shows and events I've taken the Herald to including the Standard Triumph day at Duxford, the TSSC International at Stafford and The Norfolk Area Mile of Triumphs (MoT). Drive it Day, a trip to Leatherhead for the South of England meet (SEM), 450mile round trip to Prescott Hill Climb for the Standard Triumph Marque Day, the Bromley Pageant of Motoring, open day and Stonham Barns Classic Car Show. Norfolk Gala Day and the Enfield Pageant of Motoring. Click here for 2009 outings, click here for 2010 outings, click here for 2011 outings and here for some older photos.

RMHC Charity Race Day Experience,
Snetterton 26th November 2011

What an incredibly amazing day! A reprisal of the British Heart Foundation Race Day, this event was in aid of Ronald MacDonald House Charities. With a 7am check in time the day started pretty early and amidst some confusion managed to get the car through scrutineering, decibal check and drivers briefing by 9am. Returned to the car to find Trevor patiently waiting for his lift around the track. Out on to the track for the warm up laps and I realised I wasn't going to be able to drive around the track slowly! After Trevor's outing, off he went with my camera to take a few photos while I carried on driving around on my own. Then leaving car lined up we took a stroll around the supercars and race cars. Returning an hour later to find somebody waiting for a lift in the old girl. This was followed by sister Jackie, Chris and Kath and a couple more with Trevor. All in all I reckon it was around 30 laps - not bad for a fiver. Would imagine this show will be much bigger next year. Big question is how much further will the old girl go before the head gasket goes again...
